There is a great reason I'm not mentioned in Jean-Claude Killy's memoirs, I suck at skiing. Doing the splits would kill me right now after my bodies traumas of last year. How to have winter outdoor fun? Snow Shoeing!

I bought a pair of snowshoes yesterday while downtown at Bivouac. I'm played with the idea for years and was inspired by last weeks snowfall and Bivouac had them on sale. Support your local merchants! My wife Darlene has had a nice pair of shoes for decades from a famous Upper Peninsula company who's name escapes both of us.

The last time I tried snowshoeing I was about 8 years old. I taped together an old set of badminton rackets and went for a 10 foot hike. The rackets broke immediately! Today's hike was much longer. We walked to nearby Leslie Science Center and hiked the trails there. We had a blast! The trail winds up, down, and around snowcovered wooded hills. It was quiet and beautiful. Bring on more snow!

Pictured is one of my snowshoed feet. I wasn't after art, just documentation of a first trek. But expect more showshoe photography in the future.
Beauty of Peace to all. Jim
